Well yes, as someone has already mentioned the singles are finally climbing up the charts and then falling progressively out of them. Like it should !!! I remember in the late 70's /80's the single might enter in a chart position like 10 or 20, and would go up or down the charts within a number of weeks, sometimes even getting to No.1 after a couple of weeks.

Before the downloads where eligible for the charts there was the silly notion of songs entering at number one the first week, and then dissapearing out of them the following week. This was artificially created by releasing the singles at a very cheap price for the first week, and then increasing the prices of singles after that first week. Obviously people would buy them during the course of the first week, and that would normally make them number one. It was all manipulated by the record industries, and the charts was becoming a joke.

Nowadays, very little people buy singles, and there was even talk of abolishing the singles completely. People are now downloading more songs than physically buying the singles, therefore the charts has become more realistic, due to this. The fact that the only people spending their hard earned cash on singles where small kids / teenagers, made stuff like boybands enter No.1 in the charts. Now with downloading, more adults are joining in on the buying, and obviously affecting the charts with their varying tastes.

The charts are like they used to be. There are songs debuting in the charts at a lower position before climbing (then falling down) the charts, thus staying around in the charts longer.

Well it's better to download it saves money but yeah it does affect the charts, but it must be good in some way 'cos they created the download chart. It means the artisits don't earn as much from their albums.

Great question.

I used to care about the charts when I was 14. Now, I couldn't give half a wet shite.

I hope it's making it a joke. I sure think it is.
