Hi
Your question is a bit vague...though i feel the need to answer as South Africa is my home... :-)
SA can be a beautiful place, i say 'can be' as you do know the crime in that country is rife...hijackings, rape, murder... all these senseless actions make SA a sad place at times...
BUT there is a happier side... the people are kind and friendly... they are very easy going... There are many tourist attractions, nature reserves... wonderful beaches... and many great holiday resorts...where you will be treated like a king.
The weather is great in most parts...with temperatures of 20-28 throughout the year...
Maybe you should visit the country and judge for yourself...everyone has there own opinion.

I know quite a bit about South Africa, but it's a big, big place and you'll need to be more specific. I'm also not sure what you mean by 'texiles' beyond asking very generally about the things you have. Sorry.

johncob, South Africa is by no means comparable to the rest of Africa. We're in many respects developed and by far the richest country in Africa. (There are many areas in SA which is up there with any first world country). South Africa has the best wildlife parks on the continent. We have 12 culture groups, 4 ethnic groups (African, White, Colored, Indian) and 11 official languages which is the most in the world.

The only thing I know about South Africa, is that my Dad wanted us to emigrate there after he was demobed from the army in 1945, luckily my Mum didn't want to go

While considering SA, you must consider the whole of africa, which is what SA is a part of. In terms of tribes, a tribal area would be about a weeks walk across, a tribe never had 2 leaders, the contender would be dead. It follows, that Dictators are the natural rulers. You must also consider the word "Civilised", then consider that even a cannibal is civilised, within his civilisation. Makes you think, eh???/
