What's the NAME of the part? I know what the car is doing and what it's not doing. The tranny is sealed, brand new, and 100% good. It is a device maybe computer that is telling the transmission to shift incorrectly. I heard it might be some kind of solenoid? I just need the name of the part. Thanks

sounds like shift solinoid. most cars today are electronic. the solinoid is internal and the transmission must be removed and and taken apart. Sorry for the bad news... good luck

It may be happens when the mainshaft or the bearing for it is worn out. There is too much play in the mainshaft, and the gear is not running exactly perpendicular to the mainshaft. There is no adjustment for this, the transmission has to be repaired. You can remove it yourself and bring it to a standard transmission repair shop, or if you have some experience and the special tools required, you can do the repair yourself, but it must come out of the car to do this.
IF the vehicle shifted properly BEFORE you changed the filter and installed NEW transmission fluid of the same type of which the manufacturer recommends, then you either did not install the transmission GASKET and or "O" ring on the filter correctly OR there could be a problem with the filter as most filters have a CHECK VALVE built into the filter to prevent the fluid from draining back down thru the filter.

If there is a code in the system you probably also have a "CHECK ENGINE" light on and this is telling the computer you are having problems. First thing to do is find out exactly what the code means and leads to what area. This is a transmission code, and the newer transmissions are electronically controlled and a shift solinoid may be acting up or not working at all. If there is an accumulator spring it may have broken. Line pressure is needed to make the transmission shift.

Many different electrical faults in sensors or solenoids could be causing your problem. These all feed into a transmission control unit which most modern auto tranny cars have. Faults related to the transmission control unit itself or the sensors could all trigger the same code.
My advice is that its easy to fall into the trap of replacing parts that may be unneeded. You may have to take it to a transmission specialist or the dealer to find out exactly what is still wrong.

The BANDS are probably going bad if not already OR check the Transmission Fluid to see if it is low. Let the car warm up to operating tempeture and check it while it is in nutreal. Have someone hold the brake with their foot though in case it jumps into gear. Don't depend on the emergency brake, never while you are in front of the car.

The shift takes place through the action of a vacumn valve situated usually at the bottom front of the gear box with a tube up to near the inlet manifold. The valve could be faulty or the hose could be damaged in some way
