Many extremely religious doctrines encourage abstinence and celibacy in order to maintain focus on god and avoid temptation. The greatness of sex is in my opinion a bond that two people can share when love or infatuation are present. Everybody has their own beliefs as to sex and sexual relations- upbringing, environment and experience form our sexual ideas. The greatness of sex? The mutual satisfaction- euphoric feelings that people can share.

Although your question did not specify sex between couples, it is interesting that most of the answers assumed that, or answered from that point of view.

Between couples, married or otherwise, it is not only a way to extreme pleasure, but of actually, physically bonding with another person and losing some of your sense of "self" for a while. It is the ultimate give-and-take when done correctly. And, as one partner stimulates and arouses the other, it is an ascending spiral of pleasure.

Now, let's consider the people who are - for whatever reason - without a partner. Perhaps they choose to remain single, perhaps their partner left them, or died. Whatever the reason, unless they find another long term partner, they must rely on themselves for pleasure.

Two many people - especially men - think that this means a quick stroke and spurt. They totally miss the chance to enjoy the journey, to experiement, to learn, to challenge themselves. Too many of them consider self-pleasure to be inferior to partner sex. It is not.

Actually, nowadays, sex is just a means of getting pleasure.

But according to me, it is the greatest power human beings have. With which we reproduce. It gives a person an equal position as for GOD. I mean to produce another human being within yourself is like being extra ordinary, especially for a woman!!
