I find it hard to be myself with others and convey who I am. I feel people are always judging me so I don't fully express myself - I don't talk enough about myself or my opinions.

Does anyone know of a good book (self help or other) which helps you accept yourself and enable you to open up? (prefeably a non-cheesy American-style book)!
Thanks!

"Help Yourself" by Dave Pelzer is a great self-help book that speaks to the reader's heart and advices them to be their own person instead of trying to please others.

I have two recommendations for you. I used to have exactly the same issue, and I was just too shy to really make that many friends, and when I did, I was always worried about what they were thinking about me. Even though I am pretty smart and funny, I would constantly hold myself back from saying things, because of my fears.
I read 2 books that really changed my life. Without a question, I would not be who I am today, if I had not read and then INTERNALIZED these books. They will help you too, as long as you are actually ready to be helped.
The first is "how to succeed at being yourself" and you can get it here. http://www.amazon.com/How-Succeed-Being-Yourself-Confidence/dp/0446532045/sr=1-1/qid=1165409916/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-2826545-6885762?ie=UTF8&s=booksinsuranceforu-20

The other book is an e-book, and and it was really the one that changed everything. The day I bought it, I read it begining to end, and I have re-read it a bunch of times. It is a bit pricey, but has been worth every penny 100 times over. You can find it here. http://bambiberg.costasol.hop.clickbank.net

I was the same when at High School, it is something that you have to break something (shyness) within yourself...You just have to make small steps, practise being more open in social situations.
I know it is easy to say but all the books just seem to be cheesy as you say
