A zebra is pretty much a white horse with black stripes yet it is wilder. I am not too sure it would make a great pet, but they are calm animals for the most part. Riding a zebra is totally different to riding a horse though, I wouldn't try it;)

yes, in the same way that tigers and lions can be pets.
They are animals, which means the can easily be conditioned into recognising other animals around them, whether it be other zebras or even humans, as their own herd. However, they are far more dangerous, because as wild horses, they have evolved to escape lions, not show jump, therefore i wouldn't suggest keeping a zebra around the house, as they become wildly aggresive to any percieved threat.

They're a reason they chose horses. I don't know the reason but there's probably something wrong with the zebra or else some culture would've domesticated it (like South Asians do with elephant)

Zebras are not commonly tamed, but YES, they can become very used to people.
Here in Canada a member of my family had a breeding pair, and they were a little skittish when they had young ones, but still let us approach them, groom them and hand-feed them. One of their off-spring was even trained to pull a little cart. We never had any trained for saddle though.
He sold them to zoos and game-farms in Canada and the USA.

Zebras are next to impossible to fully tame and they have a rep for being one of the more dangerous animals to maintain in captivity. They may get accustomed to people, but you'll never ride one horseback.

They can be tamed. Does this make them 'pets', or just domesticated animals?

Wow, I want one! I suppose they might kick a bit, and they might not like my back garden, but wouldn't they be cute!
