I went to Cancun in August, I (had) Nextel but I could barely get it to work locally in my state so I didn't bother to try there.
My Mom has Cingular and called her service and had the international plan added while we were there and she had to pay a flat charge of I believe $4.99 and had to pay .49 cents per minute while we were there. .49 cents per minute can rack up very fast. I have been several times and made the mistake the first time of using the phone in the hotel room (was hit with a $600 phone bill) What I do know is buy a calling card when I get there and it costs very little per minute compared to the cell phone rates. There are payphones everywhere and Telmax is very big there. You pay up front and no high costs when you return from your trip.

Yeap.. I'm not sure about the calling service, but the Push to Talk will do. Nextel Mexico has coverage in Cancun

You should call Nextel to find out. Some phones aren't world phones (won't work on other systems). Also, they may need to activate the international service. My T-Mobile works all over the world. I bet Nextel does too.

I believe nextel and sprint joined. my friend just recently returned from cancun and he called me from his cell phone several times and he has sprint. the only thing is that the calls are considered as roaming and if you use it alot your next bill will be sky high. but ya your phone should work.

Were there 2 weeks ago. We used our cell phones. Need to put in 001-area code-number. Verizon charges 69 cents a minute. I suggest calling your carrier before you leave to see how much they charge.
