And Also during the blitz (WW2) "X's" were to stop the glass from breaking if there was a bomb blown up nearby
Now "X's" are used to protect glass from tornado's, typhon's all sort of natural disasters.

Its usually a mark on unframed sheet glass so you can see it. Often the mark is left on until the window is installed for safety.

I use the ⥠mark on my window, with candle wax (easy to remove) Sometimes I use this mark... / /\( . Y . )/\ \
