advantages - specialisation, productivity gains.

disadvantages - lower job satisfaction (which can lead to lower productivity)

Division of labour is done so tasks can be broken down into component parts to create something quicker and cheaper.

It would take you a long long time to build a car from scratch time and time again, if you did half, your friend did half.

You would get so good at the half of the car you make, and your friend will did the same, you will both get the work done faster and cheaper

Advantages are many such as specialization, mass production and so on. In comparison, disadvantages are not that many except a given operation becomes monotonous after a while and there is a possibility of diminishing returns in the long run.

Advantages: Efficiency
Disadvantages: Utter boredom, ignorance as to what other people's working lives are like

I often think the human race would be better off if everyone (especially elites) would clean a toilet at least once. Might do wonders for certain people's attitudes about what is "real" work and how "real" work is compensated.
