Specifically - in Champions League Group G, Arsenal come top of the table, with Porto 2nd, however they both have 10 pts, Porto is +5 goal difference, Arsenal only +4 goal difference..... Shouldnt it be Porto on top?

home and away against each other.
at the moment united have a Superior goal difference over celtic but the home and away results favour celtic

man utd 3-2 celtic old trafford
celtic 1-0 man utd celtic park.

celtic would qualify higher in the table with the 2 away goals.

Results against each other. Arsenal have the advantage because they won 2-0 against Porto at the Emirates. Porto have to beat Arsenal by 3 goals to finish on top.

if two teams are equal on points, the head to head results between these two teams will decide who is on top of the group. Arsenal is currently on top of Group G of the 2006-2007 UEFA Champions' League due to their victory over FC Porto 2-0 back in September 2006 at the Emirates Stadium in London.

Yes but it goes on how well team A did against team B.

Like Celtic lost 3 - 2 to Man United beat them @ Old Trafford but Celtic won @ hampen Park 1 - 0 so it taken then as an aggregate but as Celtic scored 2 away from home they get the higher ranking.

If you can get your head around that.

It comes down to head-to-head over their 2 games. Who won or scored most goals etc.

it particularly is as much as head to head effects. So, Shakhtar has already qualified, no count what occurs. If Juventus gets a single element in Donetsk, Chelsea is only no longer in knockout levels

the first rule that applies is how teams perfomed against each other. if that cant determine then the goal difference rule applies!
