I totally didn't get it especially the end can someone enlighten me?

i saw that movie on sky boxoffice last week...... it all starts out pretty simple, and follows the game plot fairly closely, then the film producers seem to have played with the story quite a bit.... but basically, Lillie (one of the other people who's answered your question) has summed up the end quite well.... the thing that threw me was when it turned out that the girl and mother were actually dead at the end... must admit, i didn't see that one coming ! considering that most movies that are based on computer games are absolute rubbish, this one wasn't too bad, i quite enjoyed it, despite it being a little obscure at times.

Okay, first...they are not dead. Let me see if I can explain this the way I figured it out (I had to research like crazy and watch the movie again to get it). There are two dimensions associated with the town. One dimension is in modern time, one is thirty years ago.
During the course of the movie the little girl and her mother end up in the second, older dimension called the Shadow lands. I'm unsure why but the mother and daughter weren't able to step out of the Shadow land dimension. They went home still trapped in the Shadow land dimension while everyone else is in the current dimension. Can you say sequel?

Well, you thought it would be a good idea to watch a film based on a video game. Maybe you had some popcorn and a fizzy drink. Then when it finished you had a curiously empty feeling .... "did I just waste two hours of my life?" you thought to yourself. Then you went on your computer and posted a question on this Answers thingy. Then, a few minutes later I saw it and started to type "Well, you thought it would be a good idea to watch a film based on a video game..."
I'm not sure what else I can explain for you. Hope that helped. P.S. Super Mario Bros is better.

It is very simple guys.
It is not meant to be answered.
The best movie is where the audience can finalize it itself.
Directors use this tactics to make the audience think in order to develop the scenarios further.
It was first started in French cinema.

yeah what ms-khael said like in the games
there are two dimensions which the characters (the characters are alive) slip in and out of-in of.
IN the game the world of the dead and the real world.
-In the dead world freaky monsters run amuck
while in the real world they just escape to it and are rarely seen-
in the real world in the silent hill town the inhabitants are insane!
got it? okay take a second and read on...
while in the movie the two main chicks die at the start
-confining them only to the town in the dead world which is like the town 30years ago because of the beliefs of the people in it...as they're ghosts and in limbo
While the husband is the only person who can see both worlds (when he hears his wife and no-one else can)
everybody else is oblivious of the ghost world.
while the two chicks are confused(just like you) to where they are because it seems like 30years ago but they think its the present day-in the world of the living!!!!
Jeez-see its simple and I only watched it one time!!!

they are either dead (died when they crashed) or they are in a parallel world. i was confused to but its just the way the game is. when you enter silent hill...you are no longer in the real world so either you die and silent hill is hell or you are in a parallel universe where people cant see you.

Its something to do with a parallel univers. i also think that they both died at the crash. it just makes more sence. And ive seen it at least 7 times just for the endinh. But the rest of the film is good though. lol :)

I'm exactly the same, i've watched it 3 times now and still don't get it !!!! I think thats the point your not meant to, it get conversation going afterwards tho.
Although I think they both died when they crashed the car before they entered the village.
