hi! hamsters are actually solitary creatures! They like to be alone in their cages when they are old enough to be weened from their mothers. Hamster bites can also become infected, causing death if untreated. ( My son found this out the hard way )
When you cleaned their cage, you removed the territorial markings as well! Now they are actually fighting over who gets to "go" where! Seperate them, they could kill one another. Good luck!

Hamsters are solitary animals, preferring to live alone. If you HAVE to have 2, I'd say 2 females that were raised together is a better match, but even that doesn't always work out.
As for getting out, hamsters are escape artists! They WILL find or make a way out. I love the little critters, but have given up on ever having another, as they ALWAYS get out SOMEHOW.

I had two hamsters once, also. Then one morning, I had one and a half. They were both males. Maybe you've got the same problem. Better separate them.

Are they both the same sex? Females especially will do this...I'd seperate them asap and then call the place you got them from and explain!

handle them both more and put them into separate cages, they prefer to live by themselves, give them toys e.g. wheels and things to hide in
