There are only 12 sun signs. So, logically, there are only 12 core types of people. Leo's are apparently leader-types. Therefore, 1/12 (assuming there's an even spread of the number of people born each sun sign period) of the world's population are natural leaders.

The logic doesn't sound like logic to me.
Plus, I'm a Libra and I know plenty of Libra's who are nothing at all "like me."

So, what's up with astrology and the importance of "your sign?"

astrology dosent say thr are only 12 kind of people, but it says tht everyone is affected by some stars and in a different way. everyone is different and act diff., but there acts and deeds are in some way or the other affected by the placement of stars and planets and that has been proved a lot many times.

There are 12 different generalized ego types characterized by what sun sign a person has. And then there are 12 different moon signs that generalize people's emotion types. That makes 144 different sun-moon combinations. Then if you add mercury it makes 1728 possible sun-moon-mercury generalized types. If you do that, all the way out to pluto there are 61,917,364,000 possible generalized types of signs a single person could be born under. That's just using the planets. There are a lot of other things astrologers put in the mix.
Then - Each of a person's many "planet" signs interacts with their other signs - some signs are dominant and some are more passive, some cause internal conflicts and some support each other. A leo with a scorpio moon will act differently than a leo with an aries moon. The scorpio and leo signs will not easily agree with each other - holding each other back.

They are just generalized traits -maybe best looked at as possibilities.

Sun Signs only give very general ideas about a person. The Sun position IS important, but only in the light of a full horoscope chart for the exact time and place of birth.

You are quite correct - it is illogical to divide the world population into 12 - astrology does not do this. Like astronomers, astrologers divide the map of the sky ( the Ecliptic) into 12 segments. It then projects the position of the planets and other important astrological 'points' onto that map. The Sun is only one of those planets and 'points'.

There's a whole lot more to astrology than your sun sign. There's your moon sign, a sign for each planet, there's even signs for certain stars, comets, & asteroids if you really want to delve into it. All of your signs are in certain houses, there are aspects that relate between your signs. It just goes on and on, the possibilities are endless. The sun sign is just your inner self and this could very easily be altered if you have several other signs that conflict it. For example, I'm a sun sign Scorpio (Inner self), But my moon sign (emotions) is Pisces. This tones down some of my Scorpio qualities making me more sensitive & takes away some of that Scorpio mean streak, and gives me some Pisces qualities. And that's just one example. I have Scorpio in my astro. chart 4 times so I feel a lot like my sign. Some people won't though, that's probably why many of them feel like it's all a bunch of nonsense.

Also, These are the aspects & signs you were given at birth. A lot can happen in a person's life to alter that. Major life experiences, Religion, The society you live in/environment, Parents/How you were raised, Genetics, Your own choices that you make to change yourself, etc. So if it feels inaccurate, don't be so surprised or quick to doubt it.

I can give you both a rather boring technical scientific "theory of probability"-calculative answer and a short declarative answer without other foundation than practise and experience. . . .

Short and Sweet: There are an "infinite" number of astrological combinations, as many as there are human beings on the planet!

Calculation of combinations:
12 Sun Signs X 12 Moon Signs = 144 variants
X 12 Ascendant signs = 1728 variants
X 60 Chinese combinations = 103,680 variants
X 10 Ruling Planet possibilities = 1, 036, 800
X 10 X 12 Ruling Planet possibility in House = (keep on calculating; every horoscope is unique. One just must learn how to read the chart)

After that one can add further variants for the Dwad and other subdivisions.

Only those born in the center of the sign (not the very center day, but closer to the middle of the time period for that sign) will be likely to display nothing but that sign's tendencies. The closer you are to either end of the sign's time frame, the more likely you are to pick up on the previous or following sign.

Also, there are ways to tell based on the year you were born what sign you are- because of the fact that our year isn't exactly the same, with leap-years and all, the days they're using right now might not be the days that were accurate in your birth year, and you could in fact be a different sign altogether.

Finally, not all members of each sign will display every single tendency of each sign. But more often than not, they will identify more with that particular sign than with other signs.

Personally, I think most of of the horoscope stuff, especially those daily predictions, are a load of crap. But I'm a Scorpio, and it's such a dead-on description of my personality, and every other Scorpio I've met, that I think the personalities of each sign are pretty accurate.

I'm not too into astrology, but from what I've read, this is how I understand it:
Astrology breaks people down into 12 groups with the sun signs. If you delve further, it goes into more detail under moon and planet signs, which get a little more exact with your date of birth. So, you might find that the other signs will have leadership qualities as well, when you start getting more exact.

No. I think astrology is like a sheet of music, that gives you the basis of a song, but it's up to you how you interpret and play the music.

Astrology cannot say there are 12 types of people, because all sorts of things come into play, like self determination, choice, surroundings etc.

Also ecause astrology also works on knowing when and where you were born, this also means there are variations in the signs.

Well first, astrology is not saying there are only 12 types of people. They are merely saying that most people born in that time frame of their zodiac carry some of the similar personality traits and characteristics. My sign is Aries, and it is the ram. It is said that an Aries is hard headed and stubborn. I can be that way at times but mostly i am easy going. So zodiacs are, in a sense, "Generally Speaking".

n...astrology simply states that there are 12 BASIC types of people (just like there are two basic types of humans: female & male).

The personality of each of the 12 types will vary greatly depening on the time, day and location they were born

.I am a Pisces born towards the end of the Pisces sign (march 17th). so whilst i am a typical pisces (mystical, psychic, creative, romantic), i also tend to exhibit Aries characteristosc (as Aries is the next sign after psices in the zodiac) - including being passionate, impulsive, independent and individual. My physical body shape is more Aries than Pisces - Pisces tend to be of average height, have pale skin tend to put on weight; whilst Aries are tall, long-legged and slender as they burn calories faster than they take it in. However, i was born when Capricorn was rising and thus i have some Capricon traits as well: level-headedness and being silghty resvred (whic helps to tmeper my fiery Aries traits).
My mercury (mercury rules how you communicate and travel) is aries and as such i tend to walk, talk and drive rather fast and learn things pretty fast as well

My moon was in Gemini and as a result my emotions are changeable, varied and i make qucik assessments of people and situaiotns as welll as being a quick learner.

I could go on and on.

As you can see, your sun sign alone is not the only determinator of your lfie path oryour personality

A type of logic that recognizes more than simple true and false values. With fuzzy logic, propositions can be represented with degrees of truthfulness and falsehood. For example, the statement, today is sunny, might be 100% true if there are no clouds, 80% true if there are a few clouds, 50% true if it's hazy and 0% true if it rains all day.
