Single-breasted suits:
These are the basic style of most suits. The front buttons on the suits are in a single straight row. There is a choice of two or three buttons for single breasted mens suits.

Double-breasted suits:
The suit jacket has one of its front overlap the other with two sets of buttons. This is often seen as a more formal suit worn by older men.

A single breasted jacket is your standard sportcoat jacket with one row of buttons down the center, usually three. A double breasted jacket has two rows that overlap and can sometimes be worn with either the right or left side over the other one. A fitted jacket simply means that the fit will be closer to the body (generally tighter, less baggy) than a non-fitted one.

A double breasted jacket has 2 rows of buttons

Double breasted jackets have 2 sets of buttons visible when the coat is done up (one is just for show usually).

I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a double breasted suit unless they are very slim and tall. However they tend to be worn by small fat posh men, usually with gold buttons and khaki trousers.

i would also add that single breasted or fitted suits are better for slim build men. gents with large tums are suited to double breasted jackets as it hides the weight better. with double breasted jackets, your eyes don't get focused on the middle of the suit as the lines of the jacket aren't in the middle. if that makes sense....

A single breasted one has a single row of buttons down the middle, and a double breasted one has 2 rows of buttons. To do it up you have to overlap it, and they are fitted jackets.

Double breasted jackets have buttons that you can see even when you have buttoned up your jacket so itstead of having one line of buttons going down your jacket you have two.
Whereas single breasted jackets only have one line of buttons going down the jacket.

Double cream as most people have said is higher in fat but that doesn't answer your question! Double cream has a minimum fat content of 48% - single cream has a minimum fat content of 18%. Double cream is higher in butterfat than single cream and is known in the US as heavy cream - single cream being known as light cream. To cook with cream - such as in creme anglaise and patisserie creme you will need double cream as it can heat to a higher temperature than single and the higher buttermilk content sustains it's abililty to adapt to almost a scalding point temperature. Double cream can also be whipped - unlike single cream - although this depends on what you are using it for - whipping cream has a lighter texture when whipped; however it cannot really be used for folding into mousses because it cannot maintain its structure for cooking purposes. Double cream is an infinitely superior ingredient for mouses, ice creams, cooking, custards etc - but if you overwhip ....... it tastes like a sad day with mascapone left out of the fridge for 6 hours! i.e. can become bitter and worse than cheese like. Single cream is best kept as a pouring cream or in coffee etc. For macaroni cheese - you should not be using cream - just full cream milk for the cheese sauce. Unless, of course, you're into 6 zillion calories per bite LOL.......!!!
