Great site for free music... as well as artists who are already signed. The big deal came from the teenager issues - sexual abusers and contacting through myspace...All "chat", "communication", and "blog sites" create the same safety issues, its just that myspace got the most internet traffic.
So why does myspace get the traffic it does? My opinion, its because of the unlimited options, free creation, free options, free website photos, videos, music. Free communication with friends from all over the world.
So why is it such a problem. All those options and communication make for lots of potential issues through expression by users video, photos, and messages.
Parents may not know what it is, how to access it, if there child uses it...it scares parents - and should - just not to the point where it cant be used..
Myspace is not just teens, children, and abusers either. There are hundreds of thousands users who use it appropriately and enjoy the fun and creativity in internet personality expression, music, video, and communication with friends and family.
Hope this helped...

It only gets you in trouble with the law if you do or show something illegal on it. I have used it to get into contact with a lot of friends from high school. I graduated in 2002. I saw a story on one of the news channels that like 38% or 48% of the myspace users are between 35 and 50.
Crazy huh. You should check it out. You can always make an account and if you dont like it you can delete it.

MySpace is a place for friends, just as Yahoo or Google. People get in trouble because just as any site that offers a profile, people lie about themselves and what they do. It is a fact that there are people who look for ways to hurt people on the Internet. But that happens all over the net, not just on MySpace. You have to use you own judgement and not meet strangers in person that you met on the net.

My Space is a social networking site, it is very popular with teens but it has also been found to be extremely popular with 25-39 yo. Actually in Australia more 25-39 yo use it then teens!
As with many web 2.0 apps it goes beyond chat to more of a overall social organiser, where you can make new friends, network, invite people to events, share music and videos. My Space is ultra popular for bands starting too. I think the Arctic Monkeys got a lot of popularity off My Space, so did Sandi Thom. I have heard of banks lending money to a band because they had 20,000 friends!
My Space can get into trouble because it is easy to fake an identity. Where predators can pretend to be young kids to get close to them and then try to either meet then or do other, equally as weird stuff. A famous example is of a 13 year old girl from Las Vegas who pretended to be a band manager and invited the band to LV for a demo show, then they got to the girls house she took them into the basement and made them play her a gig! They played until the girls parents kicked them out!
As you can see My Space is much more than just a chat room. It is the engine room of viral marketing now and has the power to make and break those looking for Internet fame!
To truly understand it you should jump on and have a go!
you can add me as your first friend! check me out at

myspace is a social networking site just like friendster. it helps people be connected with their friends and loved ones. it allow users to post pictures, music, videos and create blogs.
people get into trouble because they post things that are illegal or offensive to others like posting copyrighted materials e.i. music videos. i heard that there was a girl that was questioned by the secret service because of what she posted on her myspace blog about the president of the US.
one problem that i encountered in this site is pornography. a girl invited me to her space. i thought she is one of my friends using a different name. when i opened it was filled with explicit materials. after what happened i still have'nt opened my account on that site. i know it is just a minority, but seeing such content in a social networking site is not good. we don't know who can access such contents.
