I'm used to it all, living in Salt Lake City, and they don't seem any weirder than any other religious people to me.
Thoughts? And where exactly did you hear the things you heard?

fundamentalist mormons o.k. polygamy (like so many other cultures in the world let's keep in mind) but official mormons (LDS) said that was wrong, i dunno, 150 years ago?

"My mom just said they were weird and that she didn't know anything about it."
this seems to be the ultimate answer right here...
Yeah, i never like religious commercials either. But we're definitely a different generation than those who make them.

Well I happen to be one and have heard just about everything about being weird. I think the only other religious group more maligned are the JWs. Hey, did you know that the Mormons were the only religious group to ever have a bounty on their head (meaning $$ if you kill one) by a Governor of one of the US states?
And when I lived in the middle east the Muslims I knew just couldn't understand that some people in the USA actually think we don't believe in Jesus.....especially since the official name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints. Heck I was originally a Catholic but decided to actually choose my religion. Again, the Muslims I discussed religion with couldn't comprehend changing religions.
Golly...we must be weird.
Oh Bena,,,#2 & #3 of your points are incorrect and coffee and tea are specificly banned in regards to caffine being bad for the body. But I do enjoy my Pepsi.

I never knew any or really knew what it was until I was older (late teens). There weren't any where I grew up and no one ever talked about it. My only exposure was through the TV commercials about the Book of Mormon. I was probably about 8 or 9 when I first saw it on TV. My mom just said they were weird and that she didn't know anything about it. At the time I was under the impression that the Book of Mormon was completely unconnected to the Bible in every way. I didn't understand at all what they meant by 'Latter Day Saints' and it never really hit me that Mormons and LDS were connected. The commercials just confused me because I thought they were talking about two totally different groups of people. I just lumped it into the same category as Scientology and Dianetics since they also had weird commercials and a book I never heard of.
*Since the first impression I had was that it was strange and that it was some sort of 'fake' Christian thing (I didn't know why they used 'Church of Jesus Christ' but had the 'Book of Mormon') I never totally got used to it. It's hard to shake a first impression like that if you grow up thinking they are weird and no one tells you otherwise. I've read all about it since then and I understand it now.

Many people think calling each other brother and sister is weird. The closeness compared to other Church's tends to be weird for people. A lot of people think of all Mormons as polygamist, even though its church leaders said no to that years ago. But Mormons are fairly normal.
Most these things I heard from friends, but I know quite a bit about Mormons cause half my family is mormon (I'm Catholic)

great question bro...I'm from west jordan. I don't know whether they think of mormons as weird. If they do, they just dont know. They go from what they hear.. I mean, why not ask one of the tens of thousands of LDS missionaries throughout the world. It's not like they're hard to find.

Generalizations aren't very accurate, but personally I've never found Mormons to be weirder than any other group of people. They can be pests about their religion, but I have found that if you are firm in telling them not to witness to you, they will stop it.

hmm... i don't know too much about mormons... couple of things i heard though:
1. they can't drink caffinated drinks b/c it alters the mind
2. they believe that jesus died on a pole instead of a cross
3. they believe in aliens... or that supreme beings from a distant place are coming to get them during the rapture

because of the door knocking.
I was holidaying on a yacht and they even came door knocking to our yacht all the way out in the harbour from a dinghy.
I found that very strange.

i don't think that they're weird, but what i find that is dangers for them to send out they're young boys out into different states riding their bikes to try to convert people into Mormons or go to their church.
