buhawi is a tornado borne from the sea.... ipu-ipo is more of a small tornado or whiff of wind created in land...
tsunami is a tidal wave.... and since wave is alon... mala-higanteng alon is more like it... there is no direct translation in tagalog, in visayan language perhaps... thus tsunami is also called tsunami in tagalog.

Most of us call it "Tsunami". But remember we have a lot of languages and dialects. Allan Y is also right. "Dagkung Balud" in Bisaya and yes Bisaya is a language.
