The kind of foundation you buy will also depend on the finish you want. If you want to mattify your skin a powder-based/ pancake foundation **which is non-comodegenic/ non-acnedogenic and oil free** will work best because the powder particles absorb oil a lot better.
If you're after a more natural finish but still want coverage a liquid foundation (again, with those properties I mentioned before) will work well. The liquid foundations melt much more easily into the skin so they give a much more radiant, natural finish. Applying it with your *clean* fingers will give you an even better result.
If you're after top quality, Clinique is wonderful. They have over 36 different types of foundations at least 10 of which are for your skin type, in many forms, so you can see if you like solid make up or liquid more. If you want something that will still work but won't break the bank, Revlon Colorstay makeup for Oily/ Combination Skin (liquid) is what I use for everyday and it has fantastic coverage with a very natural finish. Their pancake is also very good.

I have oily skin too and I use both.
I use a oil-free liquid foundation (Jane Stay Calm Foundation) cos I find that using powder foundation often clogs on me and some doesn't adhere to my skin well (i might look like I'm wearing a mask).
I use powder foundation during lunch time or after work to touch up and to add some coverage to my skin.

My clients have really good luck with mineral makeup. Pressed powder foundation can look very cakey after a short time on people with oily skin, as the oil settles between the skin and the powder. Minerals diffuse into the oil, looking a lot better and more natural. As an added bonus, mineral makeup has an average of SPF18, and since people with oily skin are not so keen on using creamy sunscreens, this is your best bet!
Treat yourself and find a location near you with Mineralogie Mineral Makeup, because it's custom blended to your exact skin tone. Brands like Youngblood or Bare Minerals only give you six or seven skin tone choices, so if you're unsure or between shades, you're up a creek! Minerologie also has an ingredient for oily skin to absorb and diffuse excess oil to keep your skin looking matte!

Before worrying about the makeup you'll want to get to the root of the problem first. First of all you want to try a nonabrasive facial wash, like Bjore. Put a quarter sized drop in your hand. Then mix a teaspoon of sugar, or a teaspoon of salt into the facial cleanser. Stir this until it emulsifies into a paste. Now wash your face in circular movements, being sure to pay attention to where you're likely to get blackheads. Rinse and apply a non-greasy moisturizer. The best way to combat the condition is by washing, exfoliating, and moisturizing. Now, regarding the makeup that you use. I would recommend a tinted moisturizer rather than a heavy makeup. If you have a skin condition like acne or blackheads there are many powders AND liquids that have built in medicine for such conditions. It's more of a question if you want a dewy appearance or a matte look. If you want that glistening healthy skin look, I'd go for liquid. If you'd rather have the porcelain doll look, go for powder. Either is a good choice and both are excellent for different looks you'd wish to achieve.

Definitely powder. if your skin is already oily and you keep adding
liquid onto your face, it'd just make your face produce more oil(sebum). I understand there're some oil controlling liquid foundation lines, but still, they'd never work better than the power foundations which claso claim to have oil-controlling function.
i have oily skin on my t-zone, chin and forehead, and after trying tons of brands, i find estee lauder's double wear stay-in-place power foundation the best. this is the only foundation that controls oil effectively. i used to have to blot my face every single hour, but changed to once a day after using this. and the finish is very natural. it doesn't look like you're wearing makeup, which is really a miracle. definitely my holy grail.

You can use either type, it depends what type of coverage you like.......heavy or a more natural look. Powder are lighter, unless it is a creame to powder which can be really heavy on your skin.
Most foundations are available for your skin type, so be sure that it is for normal to Oily skin types. Go to a Large Department store and try out different brands and see which feels best on your face.

I love mineral powder foundation. It doesn't have oil in it to add to the problem. I use Arbonne's. It's about half the price of Bare Minerals and made with pure, beneficial ingredients. You can order some at http://www.arbonne.com. You'll need to enter a consultant ID mine is16459642. For more info read my profile!

You should try liquid-to-powder foundation. Try Loreal Cashmere. I don't like powder foundation because it'll rub off quickly and it provides less coverage.
