Im a married woman 20 years of age.I was in the 11th week of my pregnancy when I had spotting. My husband and I immediately went to the doctor and she suggsted an ultrasound.I had an external and internal ultrasound which stated that the baby was dead.It had matured only upto 8 weeks and 5 days while I was in my 11th week and there was no cardiac movement in the baby. The doctor said an abortion was a must since the baby is dead. Our world was shattered as this was a very very wanted child. We couldnt understand why....well,its already been a harsh time. Not that I felt any pain during the abortion. The doctor gave me anastheasia and I didnt come to know a thing. The recovery is taking time, but the emotional pain is deep. And now im worried about the next time. Will I be able to concieve? Will my baby have any effect due to this unwanted abortion? Will I get breast cancer?Or any sexual dysfunction? Please help.

Ok for your peace of mind it was not an abortion it is called a D& C. A dillationa and currettage. This is necessary since the body itself had not exposed the fetus. They do this so you don't develop an infection. It is hard to go through something like this but I see it as the baby was not healthy enough to make it full term.

Many, Many women conceive after a D&C. You are at higher risk of another demise but it doesn't necessarily mean it will happen. They will just consider you at higher risk and keep a closer eye on you. Sometimes if the fetus isn't getting enough blood flow from the placenta this can happen. If the cord gets wrapped around this can happen, sometimes it just happens.

The baby itself shouldn't have any effects of the D&C itself but you will just have to be monitored more carefully.

Breast cancer... no sweetie, usually women who haven't conceived are at higher risk. Women who's maternal mom, sister, grandmother are at higher risk. Of course there are women who don't have any family history but I have not heard or read where this puts you at higher risk.

Sexual dysfuction can come from the stress and trauma of what happened. Alot of times it is Psychological in nature and will take time. You can read up on this by a Google search on sexual dysfunction after a MAB.

Keep your chin up, look forward for a next time. Be lucky you know you can get pregnant and know you will be fallowed up on more carefully now.

You had a miscarriage, not a forced/unwanted abortion. The procedure to remove the contents of the uterus after a miscarriage is sometimes the same or close to that of an abortion. Abortions do not effect your future pregnancies or ability to concieve unless there were rare complications, abortions do not cause breast cancer or sexual dysfunction. Abortions do not have long term physical effects (and usually no long term emotional effects) on women who have not experienced some of the rare complications. If you were experiencing those complications, you would know!

Get a post-op check up and refrain from sex or inserting anything into your vagina for at least 14 days (or how ever long you feel comfortable/whatever your doctor advised/mine advised 14 days after an abortion at 15 weeks). You may want to take some time before trying to conceive to let your body regulate itself as you are still suffering from some of the effects of the pregnancy and pregnancy hormones.

It may also help to think of your ordeal as a miscarriage as opposed to abortion. A miscarriage happens when the baby naturally dies and an abortion is induced. This way you'll be free from the hatred of anti-choice/pro-life groups and their lies.

The lie that your chances of getting breast cancer because you have had an abortion are just that - lies. And if the baby is already dead it isn't really an abortion, its a surgical removal of a miscarriage, which isn't really the same thing. Forty per cent of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, at least that was the statistic the last time I checked, so you are not alone. My suggestion to you is simply watch your health, and try again. Sexual dysfunction is probably not going to happen. Sorry to hear about your loss, and ignore the people that criticize you blindly because you said you had an abortion without them having read your entire post.

NO you won't have any problems from the needed abortion sometimes things happen for a reason since you were starting to spot blood your body may have aborted the fetus by it self but because you were worried the doctor caught it first which sounds like a good thing because you could have gotten an inffection from the dead fetus. take a little time rest and in about three months try agian and i am sure you if you get pregnant your should be fine

I'm very sorry to hear of your abortion. It's a shame that you couldn't keep the child willingly.

I don't believe abortions are related to breast cancer or sexual dysfunction. All they do is remove the fetus and surrounding fluid/placenta.

I know that after an abortion it may take some time to concieve, but if you're healthy, I don't believe it should be a problem.

abortions have no effect on other pregnancies, it has no affect on breast cancer, and how can it have any effect on sex, unless you let it, grow up, its simply part of life.
