Lots of questions there. The French are enigmatic. They like it that way. They aren't rude as such, but to Americans they may seem that way. For example, if two Americans meet on a bus they might start telling various personal things such as where they work, what they do, how much they make, etc. The French are not that open with strangers. Considering how many times the country has been invaded in the past, it's no wonder that they are a bit xenophobic.

Unemployment being its downfall? Well, it is likely that things will have to change drastically to fix the problem. The culture will have to change from one of entitlement to one where it isn't expected that the government will give everything. It is doubtful that Royal can fix that as a Socialist candidate.

Will the French majority convert to Islam? Not likely. Even though there is a large influx of Muslims in France, it isn't through conversion so much as immigration. France claims to be mostly Catholic, although not many actually practice the religion actively anymore.

The French economy is like any other global economy, with ups and downs. You may see an increase in the economy if other countries switch to nuclear power, as France has been the main country working on keeping that technology current.

The EU's big problem is that it is a group of different cultures with very different priorities who will not submit to the group as a whole. Thus, the EU will probably remain a very loose conglomeration of countries and not a united group like America.

Hope this answers some questions you had.

My family fled from France to America in 1607. Enough said. And yes, I have been to France...once.
