Smoking habbit is more psychological than physical... Strong determination is the first thing you should have... Understand what happens when you smoke... The nicotin is absorbed in your blood... When the amount of nicotin starts going down due to natural purification of human body, your blood asks for nicotin... Thats the time when you feel the urge... First understand that you make yourself victim of this... And you yourself has to make an strong effort... Please remember, patch or gum are very good supplements to deal with your psychological needs... You should try them, but you should follow the routine of reducing the in take of nicotine slowly... You can do it without patch or gum... Here is the time table which may help you... Considering you are smoking 20 cigerrette... 1st week - 20 2nd week - 19 3rd week 18 4th week 16 5th week 13 6th week 10 Keep it on 10 for next 4 weeks and then, every week go on reducing 2 cigerrete, until you are done with it... Remember the urge may come back, so please have chewing gum with you once you get rid of habbit completely, so that you can replace the urge with chewing gum... I was smoking for 10 long years and i can proudly tell you that now i am non-smoker...

I'd quitted smoking for 6-7 years. This is how I made it:

1) Bought lots of sugar free sweets,
2) Email to everybody you know "informing them" you are quitting. Tell them if any of them caught you for smoking, take $1 from you. The best person to email to are ppl from your workplace,
3) Use nicotine pad on your shoulder area (follow the instruction),
4) Swim and run often
5) Standby tissue paper or handkerchief. You will cough and sneeze a lot during the quitting process.

Support from ppl around you are very important, even if they were smokers..... Your success in quitting might encourage them to follow you.... like my dad and I.

Good luck

I know it's hard to stop. Believe me, I've tried several times and still can't do it. I've tried all the non-smoking aides and you know it just comes down to not wanting to smoke. Heck! I love to smoke. It's my best freind. And.....yes, I know all the risks as you do. I work in a hospital and have a constant reminder of the affects. (as I'm exhaling) But....I have a freind that wanted to stop and this is what he did. Believe it or not he ate a package of Marlboro Reds. Yes, he did!!! We had him in the ER room the next day for stomach problems but HEY he doesn't smoke any more. The smell of cigs and smoke turns his stomach so bad he hasn't touched another one. I don't know if I could go to that extreme or not. Anyways, I hear you loud and clear and the best of luck.
