I am for going back to the traditional bowl system but add the plus one game if needed AFTER the bowls. The problem with the present system is that it is placing all the emphasis on ONE game. It makes all the other bowls less meaningful. Remember when Jan 1 was awesome because you could have 3 sometimes 4 games with national title implications? Then it would be up to the voters AFTER those games to sort it out. 8 times out of 10 it worked out to a consensus national champion. My solution for the years where it is still unclear is to play the extra "championship" game IF NECESSARY after the bowls. You would play the traditional bowl games. If, after the bowl games, there was still 1) 2 undefeated teams ranked in the top 5 or 2) 2 one loss teams ranked 1st and 2nd or 3) two different teams ranked 1 in the two major polls (AP/Coaches), those 2 teams would play in a BCS championship. That game would NOT be played if the bowls produced a clear cut No 1--ie, one undefeated team and.or consensus in the polls. You could tweak the parameters. The point is that it would give the bowls BACK meaningful games with championship implications, it would preserve the bowl structure and it would still satisfy those that want a playoff in years where it is still unclear AFTER the bowls. Oh--and you CAN'T play in a plus one title game if you LOST your bowl game (thus giving them playoff value).

This year, Ohio St would play USC in the Rose. Michigan would play Florida in the Sugar (Mich would be invited as at large). Ohio St wins, they are national champs (undefeated ). USC wins, then the winner of the Florida-Michigan game is national champ. In this case, no plus one game is needed. So ironically, the old bowl system would have produced a clear national champ this year without all this controversy centered on ONE GAME. And it would make TWO games have national title implications. Thats what I miss.

I would also get rid of this ridiculous stringing the bowl season out over a week. They are eliminating thousands of fans from going to bowl games because they got them now during the weedays AFTER the holidays. That stinks. Put all the big ones on Jan1. Move the lesser games to the day before.

Either set up a playoff system, which would be good for the players and the colleges involved.

If not, then just use a blindfolded chimpanzee to pick names out of a fish bowl lined up with piranhas with college names on them. Whichever two fish are pulled out, they play for the championship ... sounds like the BCS but more technical.

Just make a plus one game. instead deciding the title game now, just wait untill after the bowls. put Michigan vs Florida in the
Rose bowl and Ohio St. vs LSU in the Sugar. play the winner of those two in the Title game on Jan. 8th.

I liked the old system - before the useless BCS.

Back then, everyone just argued about it.

Oh Wait - we still do!.

And if they start a playoff system - there will still be controversies, because some team will always get left out.
So we can still argue about it.
