Purcahse a bottle of bitter apple and spray it on the metal bars. It has an unpleasent taste. This should calm the hammy down, but it is absolutely impossible to make them non-nocturnal (Although my hamster has slightly adapted to my schedule).

No you can't make it diurnal.
A hamsters teeth continue to grow, just like our fingernails, and need to be ground down.
You could try giving it whole grain wheat. It would wear down it's teeth some chewing through the husks.
On the other hand it may be a male and it is trying to escape.
I would get an aquirium and use it in place of the cage. (or a habitrail)

(warning: if you don't get a cover (with air holes) for the aquirium the hamster will sooner or later figure out a way to climb or jump out.)

Spontanious pet purchases is what leads one to find out that this is an animal that they can't live with. Researching a potential pet will give you information on the pros and cons of that animal and from there you can make a wise decision for you and your family.

I'm afraid you now have an animal you can't live with but you are still responsible for the care and welfare of this little hamster.

Hamsters, and gerbils, and some pet rats, are notorious for chewing on the bars. It's a sign of boredom and a cage that is too small. More chewing material, more space, ie., a larger cage, more attention from it's owner, and more to do on it's own, and/or putting the cage in another room, is all that is required.

The best thing to do would be to constantly play and interact with the hamster during the day so that at night it will sleep. All hamsters are nocturnal, but sometimes you can work with them and it can change their sleeping patterns. You can also start leaving the hamster in a darker room of the house during the day, and then at night leave a lamp on near it's cage so that it will feel like it's day time. That will probably work best.

no, there is no way to stop it. I had a hamster and has a summer cage made of metal bars for her and a winter cage made of plastic, a habittrail. she loved the habittrail more and she chewed the bars of the other one so I started keeping her in the plastic one all he time. try getting it something like that, it's more fun for them and quieter, plus less of a drft so it's healthier too!

thats what you get for buying a night animal, geeze read about them first. give it lots of stuff to chew on, and put it in the farthest room from you and shut the door.
