The chief election commissioner of India is Mr. B. B. Tandon who was appointed as Chief Election Commissioner of India by the President with effect from 16th May, 2005. The office of the Chief Election Commissioner carries the status of the Judge of the Supreme Court of India. The appointment to the office of the Chief Election Commission is for a term of 6 years or till the incumbent attains the age of 65 years whichever is earlier.
