My laptop had a horrible incident and now it just doesn't work. I know the HDD is unharmed and I need that data. It was a compaq presario 2100, and now I have a Toshiba Satellite L35. The hard drives are not compatible with eachother. The presario has a EIDE and the Toshiba is a SATA type. What do i do? I can't save my files on the old laptop seeing how the old one is now dead.

*EDIT*
Can anyone possibly tell me which adapter to get? I can't find one that specifically is for the type of HDD I have.

Connect the old HDD to an Desktop PC, using a 2.5" to 3'5 converter, it acts like an ordinary ide connection with power, you can buy it at almost all major PC stores. Map the drive on network and copy to new laptop.

A notebook's HDD is not compatible with a notebook which is from a different brand. So, the only way to retrieve your data is by fixing your HDD to a compaq notebook. Then, using an external HDD which is now widely available in the market, transfer all your data into it and retransfer it to your Toshiba Satellite L35. Hope, this would help.

Use a USB connection. Belkin makes some nice ones.
