Aside from a few people that I like, like Michelle Branch, I don't really like girls singing. Music that I love to hear and sing is all written by guys. This doesn't provide a problem for singing at home (most songs are unisex anyway,) but if I really want to go somewhere...I SO don't have the voice to sing like the Flyleaf chick, maybe with the exception of So I Thought (Sorry I don't know her name. XD) It just sounds odd to hear me singing these punk pop/rock songs. :P

Check out Linda Ronstadt; she didn't write any of her own songs. She covered a lot of guys and groups songs and did them justice. A lot of girl singers are nasal- sing from your diaphragm and let it roar. Rock on.

Female punk is out there, and I bet if you listen to that you'd get some ideas about what'd suit your voice.

Try:

The Slits (One of my favorite bands of ALL TIME. Probably not what you're looking for, but awesome, so listen to them anyway)
Delta 5 (Mind Your Own Business is HILARIOUS)
X (Not COMPLETELY female)
The B52s
The Distillers (A little more grungy)
Blake Babies
Throwing Muses
Bikini Kill
Bratmobile
Hole (Meh...)

Here are some girls who sang like guys (respectively):

Pat Benatar
Joan Jett
Chrissie Hyde
Lita Ford (?)
Wendy O' Williams (of The Plasmatics)
Julianna Hatfield

C'mon! I KNOW you girls out there can ROCK! Where are y'all at. Not many over the years who could be named 'rock singer' instead of 'girl singer'. Dee Snider don't count does she? ;-)

If you write your own stuff you can sing it any wqay you like. Make a few songs, get some recordings in various styles and see what direction you want to go in.

u could always sing in a punk or rock band, female voices are always welcome since it adds some variety to the old meat-potato band concept. See these bands: Tsunami Bomb, Nightwish, Garbage, Evanesence
