Elves dont really exist. Gnomes, however - they DO exist. 100 of them are living at the Hidden Urban Gnome Reserve & Sanctuary.

Yes but unless you're very young or very special you cant see them!
There are the Earth Elves (LOTR) type who live in the Forests and there are the little Elves that work for Santa but you dont see them as they live in Santaland,North-Pole! All fairy-tales are based in truth!

Not the LOTR variety. That was the imagination of a crazy old man. No, real elves have a horrible lot in life. That damned bastard Santa Claus has them working 14-hour days all year round making PS3's for little kids who don't know that their present was made from the tears of sufferers. If you turn your ear to the North, sometimes you hear their sad song:
"Swing Low, Sweet Santa's Sleigh"
It's really horrible. Amnesty International launches a holiday campaign every year that inundates Santa with anti-slavery mail. We can only hope one day he'll listen.

no, there are no LOTR elves. No separate race similar to humans with pointy ears and skinny stature.

Elves to me represent nature in the form of magical man. They live in forests, waterfalls and other natural places. They are often seen as protectors of the earth and especially in latter day folklore as beings that almost live on the edge of existence and extinction. It is man's belief that keeps these secretive beings alive. As soon as we stop then they will fade into the edges of folklore like so many other beings before them.
Sometimes they can be benefactor and sometimes mischievous even evil. To me this further reinforces their links to nature and natural forces.
So, do elves exist? Yes, of course they do!

Alive and well in the north of England!
Boggart Hole Clough, park and beauty spot in North Manchester, is home to the Gentry of both sorts. Do not walk there after dark...
Alderley Edge, in the hills south and east of the city, is said to be a stronghold both of "svartalfhair" - dark Gentry - and liosalfair - Gentry of light.

whats LOTR? no elves dont exist on this plane but i think they might in another dimension and when the dimensions get close enough they sort of bleed into one another, which is why elves have been seen.

Yes elves, faires, imps, sprites, etc. . . do exist, but not on our plan anymore. You can still find spots of majick in this world though. They are called areas of power. One of them you probably already know about, Hint, a circle in england.
