Since Grisoft AVG is discontinuing its free service in January I'm wondering what will then be available to run on Windows 98SE.

Oh, this is really a big misunderstanding! Grisoft is NOT discontinuing free AVG service from January, it is ending support for the 7.1 version, because it has already released the 7.5 version. You can get it from the following link:

Since AVG won't be available for free, you can use the Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic.

Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic reliably protects your private computer against dangerous viruses, worms, Trojans and costly dialers.

More than 15 million users worldwide trust in the reliable protection of Avira AntiVir. And this is no coincidence at all: Avira has gained several awards. The product combines first-class detection rates and ease of use with a top performance that protects your computer safely and hardly burdens older PCs.

It is compatible with Windows 98SE and you can download it through the link below:-

Hello dear!

U used or using this, Grisoft AVG, .....

i dont know how u like it...

i dont know how much u rate it

i dont know how it looks and how it works

i dont know even its satisfactory or not!

but, dear! :), one thing i can share with u...

i have, till today, used following antivirus softwares...

* Norton ( almost all versions)
* Mcafee (latest)
* AVG
* Norman Antivirus
* PC Cillin

one thing before going further...use any antivirus software...if its not updated then virus can attack...

Now...
i used Mcafee...

i will rate it ----- >> 2 (out of ten)

i used norman antivirus ....

i will rate it ---->> 2

i used norton....

i will rate it --------->> 6

i am using PC Cillin
and i will rate...it...soooon (because from last 2 years no problem arised)

No doubt Norton little bit slower the pc....

but if u use norton 2002 and get it update (its an option not compulsory...with updation it works good) It doesnt make pc slower as latest versions of it make

Macafee///...i fear it...because whenever i installed it ....it made my pc corrupt...

Pc cillin...its best (i think)....takes lesser space ...fast...quick...downloading/ updation time is, too, small
No more crashes..no more tension...it works very well on 98 second edition.

SO dear i have told u my experience....
everybody has his/her own .....they recommend it...

Now at last it depends upon u...what to choose.......

i presented my case with good and practical experiences...

Why use the online scan when you can download a top notch antivirus program for free? Try this here:

http://www.free-av.com/

It's the best free antivirus you can have. And i have tried both AVG and Avast before i discover this.
