Nuvaring is a small flexible ring that is inserted sort of like a tampon. It is flexible so you bend it in half and insert it vaginally. This stays in vaginally for 3 weeks and comes out for 1 week. It's like the birth contol pills but is slowly released through this ring. Your partner should not feel it due to where the ring sits inside. It is also flexible so that also helps.

You may hear it can increase your risk of blood clots but ALL birth control does. It is written in the indication package of ALL birth control packages.

The Nuvaring is a good choice if you are bad at taking the pill everyday and dont want a patch on you and you dont want to have the shot. It's a great alternative for contraception.

I tried it but my body does not react well to hormones and I am unable to take ANY birth control that has hormones in it. Next to the patch this is a good choice overall. Just remember to take it out for that one week so you can have your period.

The nuvaring works the same as the pills and generally better than the IUDs. It used to be one of our most popular birth controls at our pharmacy, but it has more side effects than that of most birth control pills. So the demand for the ring has declined a bit in our particular pharmacy. However, the women that are on it, swear by it. It seems to really be a personal choice though since it isn't any better and in all reality, isn't any worse than the other birth control options out there today. If it is something you are considering, go over the option with your ob/gyn and if you feel the benefits out rank the potential side effects, go for it. I do have to warn you, there is no generic for the product. If you do not have insurance or if your insurance company has some bad copays, I would stick with the pills. Some women pay only $15 for the nuvaring but some pay $50 for just 1. So it depends on the money factor as well along with whether you need the convenience of the once a month ring (in which, if falls out, must be placed back in w/in 3 hours or you have to buy a new one...if you have another refill or a new rx and your insurance won't cover the second one for the month...)

just go to www.nuvaring.com. Read about it, decide if it sounds like something that would be good for you, and discuss it with your doctor.
