Windows media player will convert your copied cds into WMA files because it's their own format files and they are competing against MP3 for the market, what you need to do is use a different player like Musicmatch which will copy in MP3 format or download a program like Advance WMA Workshop that will convert your files from WMA to MP3,the program is free to try for 14 days

open windows media player go to tools then click rip music, select the format mp3, and if u wanna more help from windows u can check the boxes rip cd when inserted and eject cd when ripping is complete and then click ok.
when u insert the cd u will be asked what do u wanna do select rip cd and wait :D:P
PS: this will work only if u have windows media player 9 or above...
if u have sp2 will work!
