I recently discovered that my partner has slept with 13 others. Initially the number that was told was much lower. I don't understand why one would lie, at the age of 27 is this an excesive number.

I don't think anyone should judge whether it's excessive or not except the one sleeping with him. I wouldn't be concerned what his prior number was before meeting you as long as he's not expanding it while he's with you...but more importantly is do you trust him now??

I think your partner perhaps intially didn't want you to judge them based on the 'true' knowledge, that they later felt enough trust from you to share the 'true' number of partners with you. That doesn't excuse a lie, just help to explain their possiable reasoning. And, as far as 13 partners at the age of 27 is that an excessive number ? I believe no one can make a judgement as to is that excessive or not, it's the person and their live not the number that will make the difference in your partnership with this person. As well as future honesty.

It may or may not be an extensive number depending on if the partner had a lot of one night stands or not. The thing I would be more concerned about is making sure they don't have any STD's after having that many partners.

Depends on what you think. It doesn put you at higher risk of STD's. You may want to have a full STD screening. Unfortunately there is an STD that is harder to detect. HPV virus, this can cause cervical cancer. But it can be treated before it gets to that. It can be detected through a papsmear, but make sure an HPV screen is ordered. Have an HIV test and use condoms.

He probably lied so that you wouldn't judge him. I don't think that the number is excessive. I think the bigger issue here is trust. Can you get over his white lie in the beginning?

As for the risk of STI's, well that risk is there whenever you have sex. You can get HIV the first time you have sex and even virgins can have STI's. So, the number only plays a minor roll.

Uh, to me it is. I'm also 27 and I've been with only one person.
