first of all-- if you dont know what controlls air fuel mixture--dont touch it.... the plenum is bolted to the engines head-- the throttle body is bolted to the top of the plenum and the air fuel mixture screw is in the base of the throttle body...probably has a sealed cap on it from the factory.... let an ase certified tech do the adjusting.... good luck

the fuel injected engines of today are all electronic.
There are many sensors in the vehicle including --
Throttle position sensor
Vacuum (MAP) sensor
Air Volume (MAF) sensor
Cam and Crank sensors
Temperature sensor
Oxygen sensor
Vehicle Speed sensor
...to name a few.
The computer is programmed to make reference to the values these sensors report. Based on the information the computer receives, the computer instructs the fuel injectors to introduce a programmed amount of fuel, which the engine burns and sends out the exhaust. The oxygen sensor measures the amount of left-over oxygen and reports to the computer, which makes a determination of fuel mixture, and makes corrections accordingly.
VERY simplified description, but this is the essence of fuel injection.

Well in addition to what Ironhand says....

The computer meters the fuel by changing the frequency and duration the fuel injectors are open. The longer the injector is open the more fuel is put into the engine. Injectors are just solenoid operated valves.
