Actually, the person saying yes, a person can have two sets of DNA is correct. And no, it is not referring to RNA and DNA or inheritance of two sets of genes. It is called a human chimera.

It is discussed on "Understanding Genetics: Human Health and the Genome" by The Tech (see references below). I feel this is a good description.

First, it is possible to become a chimera if developing fraternal twin embryos fuse together to become one embryo. (Think of this is as the reverse of identical twins where a single embryo splits into two.) This happens very early on when the embryos are just unspecialized cells, so a healthy baby can still be made. Fraternal twins do not have the same DNA, so a mixture of two embryos will give a chimera.

Second, chimeras can arise when developing fraternal twins share a blood supply. This happens when the twins (who have different DNA) share a placenta and cells from their blood mix. The twins will be chimeras only in terms of their blood since other cells in the body are not affected by the blood supply.

Third, sometimes chimeras can happen through an error in the way cells divide in the developing embryo. (These people are technically called mosaics but the concept is similar.) Cells split into two to make more of themselves – something embryos need to do a lot of to grow into a baby. For this, cells need to double their DNA and divide it between the two new halves. Sometimes this goes wrong and some new cells end up with different DNA. If this happens early on, the tissues that come from these cells end up with a different genotype.

I include below one link to a federal government website that expresses that creating another type of chimera is illegal; this involves the human-animal chimera, described as a mixture of human and nonhuman cells. You know they have at times learned to do things that make us wonder where the line is... That is beyond my scope to answer. But its true. Just click and see.

Hope this helps.

Two Sets Of Dna

Yes, normally there is one set of DNA that is a result of the father's and mother's genetic code. When that DNA goes awry, a disease or cancer results, but two eggs can possibly fuse in the womb to create a phenomenon called a chimera, meaning that person has two sets of DNA.

Yes , but it is very very very rare. The disorder is called Chimera, there are only a few known cases. That have actually been proven. One was a lady that had mutiple births and almost had her kids taken away from her, because her dna was matching the childrens. What happened and was explained, was that while she was in womb, she was to ahve been a twin, but the 2nd twin never fully developed and she absorded their dna into her own. so when ever they tested her blood, it always came up different

You can feel about this issue whatever you want. You should not have the right to force your beliefs on others any more than I should be able to force you to believe what I do. I've had two children, no abortions. Just because I'm pro-choice does mean I am ignorant of any facts. You, however, are judgemental and simplistic in your assessment of what others might feel like when making decisions.

yes but it is very rare. generally it happens when two eggs are conceived at the same time (basis of fraternal twins) but then fuse together to make 1 embryo
