I have found and am currently reading "The Sociopath Next Door" and "The Ice People" from the Feb '05 issue of Psychology Today. I'm not finding a lot more aside from definitions of antisocial disorder from the DSRM and Enclyclopedias. Anyone know of any other good books I should look at? Thanks.

First you need to drop the word sociopath; it is imprecise and wrong, in a connotative manner. Next; " Without Conscience, The Disturbing World of the Psychopaths Among Us ", the definitive popularization of the work of Robert D. Hare, the developer of the psychopathic check list. This is " must " reading, with plenty of references and related works.

PS Read " The Sociopath Next Door ", was not that impressed with her.

Here's a link to books: http://www.hallselfesteem.com/top/sites/10/1/child_without_conscience.html

The book, High Risk: Children Without Conscience may have been one of the first popular books out that dealt with sociopaths. He includes a scale on which he shows levels of morality in certain types of people. Its a good book that gives a good picture of sociopaths.

Without Conscience by Robert Hare can give you a lot of information. He is one of the leading experts on psychopaths, and the creator of the PCL-R which is the most popular tool for diagnosing someone as a psychopath. His book distinguishes between psychopathy (sociopath) and anti-social personality disorder.

as a rule we do not treat sociopaths we just lock them up, even though since they do so well in the highly structured prison life it would be far better to identify them and use this need for structure to control ones lack of moral resposibility, and create places where they could earn their own up keep. This would eliminate them from becoming CEOs and ruining it for everyone.
Best definition is they are people who know the differance from right and wrong but just do not care. Not as much written about them as others. I do have a study where TA was used in the prison setting and they responded exceptionally well because one thing that gives them the freedom to misbehave is their lack of forsight on how things come back to bite them in an open environment which TA teaches indirectly. Also gives them the tools needed to get what they want without stealing it.
Another profession where they often work is Police and ofcourse politicians.
