Gustavo Adolfo Bequer is one of the representatives of the Spanish Romanticism, often considered in critical studies an exemple of the so-called "Biedermeier Romanticism" (to use Virgil Nemoianu's syntagm); not an overwhelming poet, but a good one, opening the line for the future generation of modern authors in the Spanish cultural space.
