1) What are two distinct ways European life was changed by contact with the Americas?

2) True or False: The Spanish were the only Europeans to establish settlements in the Americas, explain.

1. European life was changed by the economic growth awarded by American exports, and it's expansion into America created global conflicts with other countries.

2. Depending on the time period you are studying, it could be either true or false. Obviously the Spanish were not the only Europeans to establish settlements in the Americas as we know of other famous European settlements such as the Jamestown Colony of Virginia, and the Puritans of New England. However, the Spanish were the first Europeans recognized with the settlement of the "Americas" in the 1500's. It was almost 50 years later that the Jamestown Colony was established in Virginia.

Europeans brought diseases back to Europe, like Syphilis. Also, contact with the Americas created a race among European nations to plant settlements in order to claim land and hopefully, like Spain, find gold.
The Spanish were not the only Europeans to establish settlements. France, Portugal and England all landed settlements as well.
