I bought a Medion laptop 1 year ago and the hard drive crashed and the motherboard within 2 months of each other. Is that the Medion brand really stinks or is it true what the Best Buy salesperson always says - well - if you buy a $5,000 machine it might last 5 years but you can't expect a $900 machine to last more than 2 years because if you pay less upfront - the parts are cheaper so you'll have to buy another one so they can make more money on them. What a load!!!! My DELL desktop is already 3 years old and no issues EVER. My husband is voting for DELL - what's YOUR recommendation?

I have a Sony Vaio, I have had it for 5 years now... The battery life sucks but i use it as a desktop anyway so this doesn't bother me too much, I returned the first battery because it was faulty.

Apart from that my laptop is fantastic, even though it's 5 years old I am still able to do video editing, DVD trans-coding, music burning. It also only has 512MB ram but still does everything I need. It doesn't play games but I bought it originally as a work machine anyway. I did however pay $3000.00 five years ago.

I think you get what you pay for.

I believe when purchasing desktop systems you can afford to buy from small computer operators but when buying laptops, which have much more specialised components buy a well known brand.

I have even dropped a whole cup of coffee into this system...the keys stuck for a while but it's back to it's glorious self.

However, Sony's web support never used to be very helpful, I don't know now, and their support on the website for this model did not last too long. Check out websites befor you buy, go to their support pages and see if they give support you may need.
No name brands probably give little or no on-line support.

Good Luck

I have also heard Toshiba is a good reliable brand also.

Panasonic, each of how. those laptops are insanely intense priced, yet once you've the money, Panasonic are insanely sturdy. i have seen a try the position someone absolutely dropped a bowling ball on a Panasonic computer, and it did not harm it in any respect. attempt that with a Mac and be conscious what takes position. yet once you've the money, HP has some quite reliable laptops. undesirable shopper service, so be prepared to fix it your self if it screws up with the aid of any danger, yet they have some quite great laptops. Mac received't run living house windows, and that i do not advise them contained in the least. Mac's might want to nicely be reliable, and run with the aid of Apple, yet they purely help Mac-depending products, thereby any living house windows-purely products received't run. hence why living house windows is the lead operating server. yet my suggestion is HP, except you may arise with the money for a Panasonic. Dell, under no circumstances been any laptops i'd even take into consideration paying for, even if that if i needed each computer contained in the international, I nonetheless does no longer get a Dell. Mac, on condition that you have not to any extent further something that purely runs on living house windows, yet they're reliable computer's. yet, HP, is sweet except for Panasonic. they have less expensive, great high quality laptops. So bypass for what you opt for between both. ((i'm no longer speaking about the vastly heavy bowling balls, purely to assert. i'm speaking the easy 8 lb bowling ball, it continues to be sturdy adequate to interrupt maximum laptops.))

That is one of the most subjective questions to answer.

Every brand have products from the cheapest to the expensive ones, so is difficult to say.

Usually laptops are very reliable machines so most users will find the brand they use the best.

I have used 3 different brands and they are very good at the category, so again is difficult to say, what I can tell is that HP has been very good for me, because of the easy access buttons.

Good luck with the answer.

I have a Toshiba laptop and I leave it on for weeks and I treat it like crap. It hasn't had any problems yet. My laptop cost 1.4k at the time but its worth around 900-1000 now. So I wouldn't agree with what the sale person said.

Dell but my Compaq Evo has been excellent. It's a P4 and I have had no problems. I bought it used 2 years ago and it is great and I'm not a fan of Compaq. I have a Dell Desktop and know lots of people with Dell Laptops that love them.
