can u manually configure your FSB? that would be my first try. Otherwise make sure your timings are correct in your BIOS, and they match up with the guide for your memory in question. If the timings are off, it could underclock the memory. Other than that, try cleaning the contacts maybe, and reseating them. If none of that works, call tech support for your motherboard manufacturer.

Matching sticks do not eat up your speed, I've done it before. You've simply got an issue with your motherboard, that hopefully we can resolve!

so, why is it that when i was running a 512@400 and a 256@400 at the same time it still let me run at 400mghz, so if you have matching sticks it eats up your speed?

HI there

If both chips are rated at 400 MHZ then it should run at this speed. The only time your computer will run slower is if one of the chips is of a slower speed. Your computer will run at the speed of the slowest chip.

Hope this helps.

a lot if not all mobos will do this.... the more ram you install the lower the frequency. on older boards you usually get limited at about 3gb. eg: 1gbx400mhz, 2gbx333mhz, 3gbx266mhz. it depends on how many slots you have. you say you have 2 so that might give you some idea why

At first, I was going to say that the ram was mis-labeled - but if you say that each one individually will run @ 400, then I'm lost.

yor mobo doesn support dual channel(only 2 ram slots?). if u can, sell 2x512 and get a single 1gb@400mhz.
