Can anybody tell me the name of a medieval shield starting with 'H'? Has to do with family. Not hereditary.

I'm trying to do my (boring) History homework and can't remember what the word is that I need to do a research assignment on.
The word has to do with medieval time and medieval wars. It has to do with passing down to another member of the family or something like that.

It's not HEREDITARY, I already know all the meanings of that and I don't remember my teacher telling me that that was the word.

Any suggestions of what this name is would be fantastic.
