Cut the trunk so it's fresh and score it several times
Be sure the bottom of the trunk isn't flat againist the bottom of the treet holder. If iti is, add some stones, so the water can circulate up into the trunk.
Add water and an aspirin or two to the water
Add water every day - sugar and aspirin periodically. The sugar acts as food, the aspirin helps the tree more quickly absorb the sugar

cut about an inch off the bottom trunk and palce it in water. keep it watered to the level of the stand daily for the duration the tree is in your home . keep away from heat sources. ask the tree lot when the tree was cut . most growers will cut their trees in november. however smaller growers will cut dec 1st for best results.

My Grandpa used to sell Christmas trees and he would swear by crunching up two aspirin and placing it in the tree stand every time you water it to keep it healthy.

Water it with warm water. It keeps the sap that collects at the bottom soft so it can soak up more water. Check the water level twice a day.
