It's not that only white people run, it's that there's a perception both within parties(which have to find the most electable person to compete across the whole US) and among US citizens as an aggregate that white people remain the political leaders that most represent their own values. It's not necessarily true that white people DO represent the values best, of course, but that's the perception.

I think Barack Obama will be the first black president, if he runs in 2008. Unfortunately, he'll have to compete with HIllary Clinton, who has a pretty sizable war chest.

I think the office of President is one of the last things that you will see changed from all of the work our country has done to treat whites and blacks equally.

Think about it, 40 years ago we lived in a very different country in terms of race relations. There has been MUCH progress since that time, but we have so far to go. The process of progress is very slow - and I believe it will eventually make the office of President a common place for African Americans, Women, and eventually other diverse groups.

I personally believe that Colin Powell would make an excellent President and could easily win if he decided to run. Obama is another very strong candidate and has an opportunity to make a name for himself. I do not believe that he would make in in 2008 - but could use it as a jumping board for 2012 or beyond - he is young.

When more people of color start getting elected as Senators and Governors, we will start to see some potential Presidential candidates that we might vote for.

It just takes time... It was only about 50 years ago that Black people where TRULY allowed to vote. There are still men in congress who were affiliated with groups like the KKK (or whose fathers were).

We just need to take baby steps toward everyone being equal.
First the women.
Then the blacks and jews.
Then possibly the gays.
Then, the transexuals...

Oh, and don't forget the handicapped and disabled... they are still on the waiting list too.

Oh wait.... Native Americans need some priority on this list.

You see, it's a matter of cutting very thin slices of the American Apple Pie so that no one person goes hungry.

Some people of other races have run, but may do not because there is not as much of a chance for them to win (about 16% of US is black, 70% white, 14% other)

i think we had a couple of non white candidates that ran once or twice but for some reason they dropped out.. hell it should not matter about the race of a person or the sex as long as they were born here .. yeah i said born here i don't believe people that are not us citizens should be president.. but as far as race and sex is concern that should not matter.... come on do you really think they could mess it up as much as the ones we had in the past already did
