I was told that all grain foods contain insect eggs and under the right conditions these eggs hatch. First they appear as the worms you described then generally as flying insects. If you see flying insects in your kitchen visually inspect your packaged grain foods, also check for old dates on food containers. I know people who have found worms in candy bars containing peanuts. The information I have is old and maybe the U.S.D.A. and science has now found a remedy for this. Hope this helps.

I doubt it's boll weevils. The most common pantry pest is the meal moth. They live on grain products, produce small worms that leave spider-web like threads. To stop them, you freeze all the grain products for 24-48 hours.

Yes, he is right! Bombs away! Call the Pentagon and give them your address, they will send a smart bomb (preferrably a bunker buster) to your house ASAP! Remember to remove pets 1st! When you return you will no longer have a a bug problem! .............Actually, go get a Bug Bomb from local hardware store and follow directions, usually like remove pets, open cupboard doors, cover perishable food kinda stuff, then use product. Return and air out house. No more bugs!

I found some helpful info in--kitchen pests-- site but basically you do a good job of debugging your kitchen--no exposed food and no crumbs etc. I like to keep all food in tightly closed glass jars, so any infestation can be localized. I bought a bug infested black pepper recently and thank god it didn't spread to other spices.
