I'm 20 years old. My fiance and I have been trying to conceive for over a year now, and right now I'm late, but the blood test was negative. =( In my past, i've had PID (pelvic inflammatory disease), and I also had Chlamydia about 2 years ago. Although, I was sexually active with no protection before all of that also, and I never got pregnant. We are ready for a baby right now! When I go to my Gyno, she tells me that I'm too young to be thinking about infertility. What do I do!?!

Tiffany, don't stress yourself with worry cause it will not help. I am older than you are, never been on birthcontrols, no illnesses that could have affected fertility, regular periods etc etc. You would think I should have a perfect reproductive system but I am unable to conceive for a year now. Should try Clomid for the first time when I get my next period.
I know it feels nicer when you conceive naturally, but if there are methods to help, why not try it? See a doctor.

I'm surprised your gyno would tell you that you're too young to worry about infertility...it can happen to anyone at ANY age. Especially considering the fact that you've had both PID and chlamydia...both of which can lead to infertility.

Personally, I think you should get a second opinion from another gyno. And tell the doc ALL of your sexual history...that will help.

But also, have patience and try not to stress so much, which can cause disruptions in the ovulation cycle. I was on the pill for 9 years and it messed with my system so much that it took me a year and a half before I got pregnant. My parents were trying for 6 years before they got pregnant with me...so don't jump to conclusions just yet.

Anyway, Good Luck to you!

PID and STDs can definitely affect your fertility.

I would get a second opinion since you have been ttc for over a year now. You can never be too young to have infertility problems! Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after one year of actively trying if you are under thirty years old.

I had issues when I was in my early twenties and my concerns were dismissed by my gyno since I was so young. I am now thirty and have had infertility issues for over 4 years now. I regret not seeking other medical advice earlier since this could have been avoided if I had been treated earlier.

You have had quite the sexual past! PID and chlamydia are both known to cause infertility.

You are too young to have a baby anyway! Have you gone to college? Traveled? What will you have to offer as a parent? Don't you want to be able to teach your child things once it's born?

And don't you want to be married first??

She's right you're too young to think about having babies, but if you're really concerned about your fertility, go to a specialist and get it checked out.

If I were in your situation, I would find a new doctor. You are hiring a doctor, and if they are not going to listen to your concerns then you should fire them. Ask friends or relatives if they can recommend any OB/GYNs that way you aren't just flipping through the phone book and landing on just anyone. Good luck!!

Find a doctor who respects you enough to listen to what you say and reassure you with knowledge not empty platitudes and work to find a solution.

PID could definitely impair your fertility and you need to know for sure.
