if you place aluminum foil in the bottom of a glass dish and put baking soda (2 couple tablespoons) and about 2 cups BOILING water, there becomes a chemical reaction that will clean silver. I do it with out harsh smelly chemicals. Add more soda if it doesn't seem to work as fast. It's usually instantaneous.
