Get out the Lysol or Fabreeze out when he is there and spray the sofa--tell him no offense but by him spending so much time sleeping on the sofa its taking on a mattress odor--- Or buy him a foam topper for his air mattress and some new sheets and pillow that would be a nice gesture too its not fair to you to have to entertain company on smelly furniture

What I would do, because I prefer to avoid confrontation:
Fe-breeze it all to H_ll!!!
Do it so much that it's wet. Do it while he's in the bathroom. Ask him to get up so you can do it. Go on and on about the smell of this couch, and how it just drives you nuts.
What mature people who don't mind uncomfortable confrontation would tell you:
Say, "Hey, ___, since you've been sleeping out here, this couch is starting to smell like you, and I think you need to get back on the air mattress, because I am uncomfortable with its odor. No hard feelings."

say that you had the couch inspected by the place you bought it from, because it felt uncomfortable to you. Then say that the couch salesman came over and said that he could tell someone's been sleeping on it, and that body oil and such have ruined the couch, and such.
Then ask your friend for 'warranty' reasons, to possibly wear long sleeved and long pants if he wants to sleep on the couch.

Show him the graphical co-relation between sleep, sweat, human BO and cloth.
With relation to time. LOL
Oh, and add in bacterial colony multiplication as well.
He'll suddenly wake up and smell the BO.

Just tell him how you feel! I mean if he can't except it, then it is your couch. If he doesn't respect it, then well...you know the rest!
