It fuses hydrogen into helium for it's energy. It also fuses helium and other larger atoms into even larger atoms. At some point it requires more energy to do this than the sun has and it will cease to fuse so strongly when enough of it's mass is made of larger atoms. This will take a long time where the sun will most likely go red giant and then back down to white dwarf. The whole process will finish in about the next 5 billion years or so.

Our SUN is a white dwarf.and it is second generation star. that means that its age is approximately 5-6 billion years. The "burning" comes from the Hydrogen fision. it burn out to helium.
It still has much fuel to burn and this it will take approx 13 and something billion years.
So, Don't worry, there is time enough to have "Light and Heat".

The sun will burn out when it consumes the hydrogen it uses for nuclear fusion. This will occur in approximately 5 billion years.
