If I will see the person before New Years than I wish them a Merry Christmas. If I won't see them until after New Years, than I usually just say Happy Holidays as my way of wishing them a Merry Christmas and a happy new years.
I'm not to concerned with people feeling uncomfortable with "Merry Christmas":
1. December 25th is Christmas Day on the calendar.
2. The majority of Americans celebrate Christmas.
3. If it really does make you feel uncomfortable to hear "Merry Christmas" than you just have to suck it up. We all have to go through life feeling uncomfortable at times. It's just not possible to please everybody and make everybody feel "comfortable".

NO I don't take offense to a merry Christmas! Actually I enjoy the greeting. Seeing as that's the holiday I celebrate.
However I like to put some people into shock so I might Say Happy Hanukkah or Happy Kwanzaa. Just to see what if people accept my greeting or look a little shocked.

From REPUBLICANS?
I've never seen anyone get offended by that, nor heard anyone complain about the Christmas decorations and music in public areas, unless it's something like "If I hear 'Silent Night' one more time I'll go on a killing spree!"
I bet that if you have a really emotinal, b*tchy friend who happens to be non-Christian, and you caught them in a bad mood, you could get them to b*tch at you by saying "Merry Christmas." But I know only one person who MIGHT, CONCEIVABLY, IN THEORY do that, not so much because they're offended as because they need an excuse to fly off at someone. (Instead of saying "Merry Christmas," you could simply greet, "I like your hair" and get an extremely offended response because you've implied their hair is awful on all other days. You know the kind of person I'm talking about.)

The only people that took offense was some christians because some department stores started to say happy holidays. Then they turned around and blamed everyone else for it. Some people need to take responsibility for their actions.

I don't take offense to "Merry Christmas" and neither do most people I know. I do know people who don't celebrate it. But as far as the PC police are concerned, they are a group of imaginary people who have been given too much power by the public.

I don't even though I don't celebrate Christmas for anything beyond the commercial aspect of it. I'm not Christian, and I don't really care if "Jesus is the reason for the season." It doesn't really apply to me. But I don't get bent out of shape about it.
I do try to say Happy Holidays instead though. Just because I don't see what the big deal is if I say that versus Merry Christmas.
Plus, I say it mostly at work, and the corporate world is anal retentive about that stuff.

I have no religion but I say Happy Christmas . If I knew the person was not a christian I would probably say happy holiday, and hope that nobdy takes offense at either of those greetings.

I take no offense at all. It is Christmas time and it is a merry time. If someone says "happy holidays" at Christmas time, what holiday are they talking about? People say happy Hanaku (sorry for the bad spelling!) and no one changes that.
