It couldn't possibly be worth it. It's one of the most expensive places to live in the country. The traffic is horrible and I mean horrible, everything is expensive. It's one of the coldest and windiest areas in California. Unless you have job skills that fit the region, there are many other places to live other than San Francisco. I don't know what your job speciality is, but you should look elsewhere.

Well I have to agree with some of the other people, the traffic in San Fran can be atrocious! AND it is EXTREMELY expensive, both housing and the normal day to day expenses. (but big cities are like that) Also don't forget to take into account that San Fransisco is a tourist area, so be prepared to deal with that also.
Now we live near the Sacramento area (which btw is alot cheaper and home prices here are dropping right now) As a matter of fact there are quite a bit of people who live here in Sacramento area and commute to San Fran... but that is about a 2 & 1/2 hr commute with ok traffic!! Then of course there is the tolls on both the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge.(crazy if ya ask me)
It is always chillier in San Fran. Temps right now are about in the 50's... in the summer it's nice though... when the rest of us are sweltering in over 100 degree heat its a nice 80 degrees. You will have alot of fog there also, but they are known for that. Oh also, of course, you have to be prepared for earthquakes at anytime. So when you look in to buying a place to live there, I would advise to check how much insurance will be... AND how much parking you'd have.
BUT I also have to say there is a TON of things to do in San Fran. nightlife - always something going on, during the day - tons of places to visit - parks, ect. and it is very beautiful. I would advise if you can, to maybe visit first and see if it's something you could live with. If your job pays well and you like the area, I say why not?
Good luck with your decision!! Hope it all works out for ya! :)

Try Portland; it is like "San Francisco Lite" also very beautiful and picturesque, not as crowded, and a whole lot cheaper!

The city has lots of hills, depending on your transportation, if you will drive a car it will cost more because driving up hills puts more of a strain on your engine and transmission, and going downhill will wear out the cars brake system faster than on flat land.

Been there. Do you have to be IN the city? Traffic near Berkley is a nightmare. However, north of the city in Novato is a nice place( and cheaper).
