As they say, to have a friend you must be a friend. Instead of thinking about your loneliness, look around at others who might be lonely and reach out to them. I don't know how old you are, but if you are a "senior", join AARP and go to their meetings, volunteer at a senior center, volunteer for Meals on Wheels on the weekend. I have heard that people who rely on Meals on Wheels are often very lonely and they want you to stay and talk to them when you deliver a meal to them. You could become a friend to them, and then you will have a friend, too. Friends can be made at any age.

There was a time in my life when I felt very sad and alone even though I had family and friends. I started to sell Avon and it was great. Many people who buy at home are unable to get out and socialise for one reason or another and I found that they really looked forward to my call and we'd take our time going through the catalogue and discussing many subjects which were of interest to them and me. I moved out of town so don't sell anymore but some of the dear people I met are still good friends. You said you were a teacher so perhaps you would need to try something different like, volunteer work.

Absolutely. No one gets no friends just because their old or ugly looking. It really doesn't matter. What really matters is that you have a nice personality and that you are a nice person. If you do have that, then people will like you. If it still doesn't work, then try to be more "standing out" so that people will then try to make friends with you. My grandmother is 59 years old, but she has an uncountable number of friends. So don't worry. You'll find a true friend one day.

there's no reason you can't have great friends, no matter what your age. you just need to meet people with similar interests to your own.
