When you sleep your brain goes through and deletes the minor unimportant memories (like the background conversations you hear during the day). When you don't sleep, your brain has less space. From my own experience, I have a much harder time concentrating and remembering things when I have less sleep.

Sometimes you will gain unimagined clarity and learn faster than you ever have before. Other times you will want nothing more than sleep and an end to the torture, it all depends primarily on whether you like the stuff you are learning in class.

Its true as some of the other answers have said that the brain fires all the neurons during sleep as a sort of overload-preventative mechanism, but I do not think this will deter learning significantly if your motivation is able to over-ride it. However I dont suggest doing this 2 nights in a row,

Since after 2-4 days you will start seeing hallucinations and other errata.

I think you will fall asleep in class. I fell asleep 3 times when I was going to school for lack of sleep. One time I almost fell off my chair (we were watching a movie during music class). Another time I fell asleep and I was in the front row...embarrasing. If you need to really go because your attendance is taken into consideration then go, otherwise might as well catch up on sleep.

Not only all that people have already said, chances are you'll be crankier and more likely to snap at people and get in arguments. Plus, if you drive to school you're more likely to get in an accident, and if you fall asleep in class you'll be in big trouble! So get off Yahoo! Answers and go to bed! :)
